Saskia Laroo
One of the few female trumpet stylists in the world, they don’t call her “Lady Miles Davis of Europe” for nothing. After all, Laroo’s nose for the new leads her to romp blithely into innovative fusions of hip-hop, jazz, salsa, funk reggae, and world, appropriately coined “Nu Jazz” or “Swingin’Body-music”. From her beginnings as a pro on the Amsterdam music scene, she has absorbed various styles and especially key to her palette is the rich stock of world music, namely, sounds from Hispanic, Carribean, Brazilian, and African roots. Now, with five CDs to her credit, she is working on CD number six.
Laroo’s Short List of Festival Appearances:
Atlanta Jazz Festival, Autumn Jazz Festival Prague, Bali Jazz Festival, Bogota Theatro Jazz Festival, Burghausen Jazzwoche, Hamra Festival (Libanon), Java Jazz Festival, Kuwait Jazz Festival, Mama Jazz Festival (Lithuania), Mega Dance Festival (South Korea), Montreux Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Paramaribo Jazz Festival, Sofia Jazz Festival, Sunset Festival (Japan), Yatra Jazz Festival (India) etc.

DJ Buscemi (Dirk Swartenbroekx)
Since 1996, Dirk Swartenbroekx (Belgium) is making “warm” records under the name of one of his favorite actors, [Steve]Buscemi. Pinning down his style is no easy suduko: nu bossa, nu lounge, house music, brazilian grooves, afrobeat, drum ’n’ bass (Foh!)... perhaps DJ Buscemi’s sound is best termed “Paxmusique Au Latina`” or “El Danzmusicos”.
Buscemi’s Tracks and Wax
DJ Buscemi has released 4 EP’s, 3 fully-fledged CD’s and two compilations for the prestigious Blue Note label. Buscemi’s skill at turning his hand to basically anything is born out by the way he manages to combine a wide range of musical styles. His fame as remixer is rapidly spreading, and besides top Belgian acts like Lais and Hooverphonic, he has also reworked tracks for foreign bands like Beach Boys, Suba, Madredeus and Calexico.
Buscemi is much in demand as a solo DJ act, but he also works with live musicians and together they serve up a steaming cauldron.
