Trumpeter Saskia Laroo on this Summer ‘s Festivals and tours.
The Netherlands - Brazil - Finland - Canada - Croatia - USA - Belgium and perhaps Congo.
Coming Summer Saskia Laroo will hit the big festivals again this year in various parts of the
world. She will tour to Brazil, Finland, Canada, Croatia, Belgium, even perhaps to Congo- Africa and of course the Netherlands with her Saskia Laroo Band in different settings but always with her pianist/vocalist partner Warren Byrd from the USA.
May 2011 -The season for her kicks off this week in her native country the
Netherlands at the Amersfoort International Jazz and World Festival. Amongst
many settings featuring her on this festival, several will be with her band accompanying
wonderful up-and-coming Canadian vocalist Irene Atman. The event, organized by JazzNL
will take place May 12-15, hosting an astounding array of jazz artists and professionals hailing from various countries from India and Thailand to Spain, the USA, Australia, Canada and more.
June 2011 -The last weekend of June the eight-piece version of the Saskia Laroo Band will
travel to Brazil to perform at Rio das Ostras Jazz e Blues Festival, one of the biggest
international jazz festivals in South America. She will headline this Festival with other highly-
acclaimed acts such as Nicolas Payton, Azymuth, Medeski, Martin & Wood and more.
A week prior to the Brazil tour, her five-piece version of the band are slated as candidates to
hit at the Kinshasa Jazz Festival in Congo, Africa. Fingers crossed.
July 2011 -Concurrent with the Netherlands’s prestigious North Sea Jazz Festival, July 8-10,
Saskia will be headlining the second largest world music festival in Canada, the Sunfest,
doing three performances there with her eight-piece band featuring Senegalese percussionist
Pape Seck. Shortly prior to Canada, Saskia and her eight-piece will have done a "fly by" Finland for a one-night stint at the Big Band Festival on the beautiful island of Imatra on Wednesday July 6 to headline with Larry Graham 's Grand Central station. Saskia and crew will feature deejay Robbie Taylor, known from his work with the Hans Dulfer Band. To close out July the Saskia Laroo Band will hit Croatia for two Festivals; at Zadar July 28, and a concert by the Sea at the ex-Presidential island Mali Losinj featuring guitarist Zoran "Jex" Jager and MC Stewlocks.
August 2011 -The first weekend of August has Saskia & band trekking to Belgium for two
concerts: Aug 5 back by special request at de Knoet in Aerschot and August 6 to Gouvy
Jazz at Ferme Madelonne, Belgium’s oldest jazz festival headlining the bill with the legendary
Michel leGrand and jazz tenor-master Ricky Ford. The last weekend of August the Saskia
Laroo Band will hit it back in the Netherlands Aug 27 at Jazz at the Castle Festival in
Amerongen.
Saskia continues to offer a versatile range of settings as an artist performing not only with her
funky-electric Saskia Laroo Band, but also pure jazz with Jazzkia, latin jazz with Salsabop,
and as Saskia 's Solo Act--jazz electronica with deejay. Saskia also performs as special guest
soloist.
With her duo with Warren Byrd, they play unplugged and organic jazz. They anticipate the
release of their new album, Two of a Kind - a tribute to Miles and Monk on Laroo Records in
cooperation with Byrdspeak Productions. The release date is July 19 in the USA and Canada, and later on in the rest of the world. Release concert in the USA is Aug 13 at Royal Masala in Hartford, CT organized by Beatnik Entertainment.
