CD - Bodymusic

the second album from Dutch female trumpet virtuoso continues her amazing funky streak, combining hip jazz/acid jazz with dance music styles such as drum 'n bass, speed garage & big beat on all original cuts (except one tribute to Miles Davis) - she uses acoustic instruments in a unique way, soaking them with hip hop beats & booty shakin' dance grooves. Guest appearances by a.o. Rosa King (vocals) and Candy Dulfer (sax).

Liner notes: It takes a special kind of talent to do exactly what you want and have it accepted by a great number of people, especially when you are working in a field where public acceptance is hard to come by. When jazz
musicians have hits, sometimes it is because they popularize their style. Not so trumpeter, bassplayer, producer and composer Saskia Laroo. She’s not only a hardworking, sincere jazzmusician who is goodlooking, hip, popular and selling a lot of CDs from her selffounded record company Laroo Records, but she also stands for a very high musical level in the many different jazz directions she is going nowadays. Listen to the CD and agree with me!Hans Dulfer

Song lyrics
1. Vibes Rehearsal  Mellow Mac: “It goes way back” ; Jaco Abel Vivancos: “Lekker hoor”, Cyril Directie: “Gezellig hoor, het gaat lekker”
2. Vibes  Mellow Mac: “You gotta take me where the Vibe is, take me where the Vibe is, You gotta take me where the Vibe is, take me where the Vibe is, gotta bring home the Vibe, make it alive, make it alive, you know what I’m saying, you gotta take me where the Vibe is, raise up the beat, take me where the Vibe is, make it fat, you gotta take me where the Vibe is, gotta bring home the Vibe, make it alive, you know what I’m saying, the Sign is flowing, it gotta be known, the time is flowing, ain’t nowhere to go, the Vibe is flowing, it gotta be known, the vibe is flowing, ain’t nowhere to go”.
3. Shout Ghasem: “About Miles, Miles was a mentat, an alchemist. His trumpet is the element of iron or earth. The element of wind or air is in the actual breath. All he does is blow into a brass tube with his air”. Mellow Mac: “He brings the highlight in the twilight zone. The Man with the Horn is gonna take you home. Leaving memories, making history, you gotta love this guy, I know you will agree, slammin with his improvisation, Miles gotta be heard in every playstation, So he ‘ll be known through all generations, bringing up a new Miles Hype Situation”. Ghasem: “All he does is blow into a brass tube with his air, and he goes any place in the world that he wants to go. Miles is the Contemporary Man, very true. He has Music from every Land that’s all condensed and synthesized into the Joy and Happiness of the Moment. Miles says something very important about his music, some very simple, he says:“Why should my, why should my music sound the same when my telephone sounds different. The long distance call that I made in 1945 sounds much different than the long distance call that I make in 1985. So I have to keep, so I have to keep abreast and parallel with the technological influence on the experience of people. If indeed I have to be the voice of the creative experience of Earth.” That was indeed what Miles was, he was the collective mind, if you would, The Voice of the Collective Mind of the citizens of Planet Earth”.
4. BodyMusic Rosa: “Hey Sask, I love this groove from the very first beat baby, you know I love that body stuff Uh, I don ‘t want no head music messin up my mind, give me that body stuff every time please I have enough things to terrorise my brain yeah, ha ha whoa. Aah, go ahead, Horn section, I love that too, Remind me of the good old days I like to call it “The days of the Kroeg”. Wow, uh. Hey babe, uh, love this groove, Love the way it makes your body move. You don ‘t have to think about it, it moves all by itself. Let your energy flow baby, you don’t need no help, uh no help. Oh babe, you don ‘t need no help, uh, you don ‘t need no help uh, it was another time, wasn’t it babe, yeah, ha ha, I love it, yeah, do it to me baby, go ahead, do it, do it, do it, Yes, yes, yes. Makes no difference where you are, when you hear the beat. You could be flying high in the air or walkin’ down the street. Free your mind from all the things that terrorise your brain, let your energy flow and let that body swing, let it swing. Uhuh you did it again, did you, yes, body music. It’ll makin you bump upon a stranger girl, it sure will. Woah, ahaa you don ‘t have to do nothing about it, it moves all by itself baby. Yeah, Yes yes, this stuff’ll let your love juices flow, wow. It can make you bump upon a stranger, girl, We do, do we, don’t we! mmmmm Funky Music, It goes on and on and on and on. With this kind of groove I don’t need no food, ha ha, Hit that one more time, why don ‘t you do that again? Ahh you did it, ha ha, woah Don’t stop don’t stop don’t stop. Don’t stop don’t stop don’t stop”.
5. Don’t Stop, Can’t Do Without Marita: “Don’t stop, I say don’t stop. Baby you know, you give me freedom to express what I feel. Don’t you feel what I feel? I feel like jammin, I feel like winin, I feel so free I get into the mood when I hear this lovely groove, Don’t stop, I say don’t stop! Don’t Stop, I say don’t stop! I tellin you, baby you know you are the best. Yes, you know just what I need, just one touch, oh my god, from you, you know it. You know it means so much to me, I can’t get enough. No-one can keep it going longer than you. Come on come on come on, heat me up the way you do. Don’t stop I say don’t. Don’t stop. Do it to me the way you do. I like it like that. I can stop looking around cause this is what love is about you know, Wauw, it’s like thunder, it’s like lightning, the way you love me is so frightening you know, you keep the fire burning, and my heart keep rolling, can you hear it? I feel so cool when I hear this lovely groove you know. I get into the mood, I feel so free, I feel like jammin’ I feel like winin me body. Don’t stop baby, don’t. Don’t please don’t. Don’t stop, do it, do it. You’re doing it fine, you’re doing it right. Don’t stop, I say don’t stop. Don’t stop, I say don’t stop. Oh yes, I can feel it. Can you? Well I do, I can’t get enough. Do it. Yeah baby, yes. That’s it, that’s it, right”.
6. Supagroova Mellow Mac: “Mellow Junglin’ inspirational sounds, confidential Laroo stuff, Breakin up all barriers with strictly groove, countdown by selector with a new smashin’ release: Supagroova, Supa supa supagroova, Supa supa supagrrroova, Supagroova, supagroova. Oh yeah, confidential stuff, what’ch y’all really wanna know, Ah do you really wanna know”. Ghasem: “One two THREE four five six seven eight, La ha la la e la la, And it ‘s because three is the basis of the Family. Five is the number of infinity or the collective mind of Man. That’s the drop of the finger. One two THREE four five six seven eight”.
7. Spin Mellow Mac: “One, two, one two, You’re in a spin come on, you’re in a spin come on, get rid of it, step out of it, you know you gotta deal with it. Strange that I’m always reminiscin’ about the past, Missin’ all the good things in Life, cause life is movin’ fast. Think forward, not back as I must say. Do good things and bad ones, and then you pay. Talkin’ about sorrow, talkin’ about remorse, Talking about the negative vibes that knocks you of course. Don’t try to live them, try to work it out, cause you are spinnin and you gotta get out. Once upon a time and not so long ago I was trying to get solo but couldn’t get the flow. What was it I want and what did I do wrong? I felt so strong but suddenly my strength was gone. No self respect no self esteem. I wish that I could sleep and life was just a dream. Get myself together, pick myself up, help me stop spinnin before I’m gonna drop. You’re in a spin, you’re standin’ still (come on, come on) You’re trying to move forward, don’t know where to begin. No time to spin, it’s time to win. Just keep on movin forward and do your own thing. And forward and do your own thing.
8. Leemou Mola: “Dem tee lu ‘ngann, Dem tee lu ‘ngann, Ma Lobee Samba, Kuli ma chi, Sen ngi ndaat mbey, Mboyo leemouna, Mboyo leemouna, Mboyo leemouna, Yalla nalin Yalla bourbi leemou, Mboyo leemouna lin, Aye aye aye aye, Dem tee lun ‘gann, Dem tee lun ‘gann, Ma lobee Samba, Kuli ma chi, Sen ngi ndaat mbey”.
9. The Base Element Ghasem: “Ladies and Gentlemen, we want you to put your Bodymusic together one moment for, please, Miss Saskia Laroo, Dutchess of the Jazz Dance Flow. Here to let you know that we got to go forward ever and, Saskia, she’s not gonna never stop. Alright, alright, Please Ladies and Gentlemen, put your Bodymusic together, let’s welcome to  the stage Saskia Laroo,  Saskia Larooooo. Love, the base element in the house, Love is the bass element in the house, how about a nice round of applause to Mister Lesley Joseph....”.
10. Good Morning Doctor Laroo Ghasem: “Good morning Dr. Laroo, alles goed met jouski? And how’s my man the Boatman there? Are we still carrying the creatures of the Sonic Arc ever into the future?”.
11. If & Maybe Mellow Mac: “Fully relax sippin Tequila Rum Bolo with my but in the Sand, Feelin’ like a bobo, just me, myself and I between the mess, I’m tappin my hand on my chest. My walkman stands by ready to press play, Sure I listen to the old and to the new stuff today. Just lay back and be calm cause it doesn’t matter, As long as it funks I’m feelin so much better. Play with the old folks clappin and rappin, Feelin’ like I’m gonna make things happen. I like to raise ya, I like to pace ya, I like to do the things that will amaze ya. I will blow ya upside down and down again. You’ll try to drive straight but you can’t stay in your own lane, there is no use, you can’t go back, ha ha, cause your house is packed. A Dideladon dideladon lade, Saskia Laroo’s gonna make you sway, Each and every and every day, She’s gonna display just what I say”. MC Cocktail: “Seems I’m on the D.L., stands for DownLow, I’m bound to take my things and go. But the other flow is what  has got me strapped, I’m fully tapped, But I’m not a 501, I’m on the run for fun like I was the Pharcyde yeah, I got me gunnin’ and runnin’ and all their things you’ll be dummy, The other side is where I’m comin’ ah Time after time I gotz the rhyme and you know I’m working overtime to get it done Ahh yeah that is right I’ll peak you on the time side and get it done, check it..”. MC Mad Ten: “Swing low sweet chariot, let it ride, The more the merrier, step inside. Aircraft carrier, how wide? So I’m really scarin ‘ya. Who tried to step to the real me, the bona fide, Mad-10 hailing from the posse called Nuclarity? Yes yes y’all, stand back, stand tall, sit back relax...uh uh uh. I’m getting ready and the beat’s that thick. That thick? How thick? Like peanut butter baby. I wanna see you utter another world baby, When you try to do shit if and maybe, if and maybe, if and maybe, and maybe. Who me? Yeah, comin straight from the mind, the grey matter. Where’s it all? The grey matter in the top. Uh insane from the brain, let the rhyme drop, can’t stop another fat groove: I feel the beat now you gotta move, I feel the beat now you gotta move, I feel the beat now you gotta move, I feel the beat now you gotta move”.
14. More Body Ghasem: “What do I think about Bodymusic? When I think about Bodymusic I think of bodies coming closer together in an exchange of energy that is so balanced that there is never conflict. As in the case of two Martial Arts Masters, doing intensively a Dance of Death in each others’ face. But because they are riding on the music between them, Bodymusic is really the Organ of the Planet, The Dance is actually in Space, Bodymusic is an Exchange of Energy, that takes us to a higher plane, Bodymusic is simply fun,There is only happiness to gain. What’s Music without a body, Can you imagine a sound without an ear?”

Brief album description: On this second album (which is like the First CD very danceable) are the newest Dance Jazz Styles (Drum 'n Bass, Big Beat, Chemical and Filtertechniques) besides Speed Garage Funk, R & B Soul and Futuristic Hiphop, alltogether combined with Acoustic Instruments in a very special way.
Again all tunes are originals, mostly written by Saskia, except for one (tribute to) Miles Davis tune named: "Shout" and is recorded mainly and finalized at Studio the Boat by keyboardplayer Rob Gaasterland. Saskia plays besides Trumpet also Acoustic and Electric Bass and some Alto Sax.

Song descriptions
1. VIBES REHEARSAL is a brief introduction to the Album, consisting of a sample of the Happy Band Rehearsal of the song VIBES preceded by Mellow Mac’s Funny Voice.
2. VIBES is a cool, down to earth SPACEGROOVE. Besides the Electric Bass, Saskia plays with Muted Trumpet Subtle Reproachful Blueslicks and before you know Mellow Mac’s Voice leads you to Weird kinda DUB REGGAE Vibes, inspired by Rob Gaasterland’s Nordlead.
3. SHOUT is a cover, originally played by Saskia’s Favourite Trumpet Player Miles Davis. An idea of Keyboard player Kino Dido Haitsma, was to make a CLUB HOUSE arrangement of this tune which resulted in Rob Gaasterland ‘s SPEED GARAGE Version with a Daft Punk Touch, but more Seventies-like  because of the Live Accompaniment and Solo by Kino on Fender Rhodes. However, the Groove actually leans on Electric ‘Slap’ Bassplayer Lesley Joseph who is already a legend of his own in Many Musical Ways. Mellow Mac’s Rap Vocals and Ghasem Batamuntu’s poetic Voice are tributing the Song to Miles, as well as Saskia, playing Muted Trumpet with a ‘Miles Atmosphere’ but still in Her Own Style.
4. BODYMUSIC was secretly meant by Saskia as a Reunion Song between Rosa King, Candy Dulfer and Herself. She wrote a Horn Riff on this irresistable FUNKY GROOVE (however Modernized with CHEMICAL BEATS by Beatmaster Rob Gaasterland) out of Nostalgia about the Female Ladies Horn Section of Rosa King’s Band where she and Candy were part of for a Long Time at the Beginning of their Careers. Inspired by the Beat, Rosa, who is Born in Georgia, USA but lives for a long time in the Netherlands now, spontaneously created Lyrics on the spot and sings them with her Powerful & Soulful Voice. She sounds like a female James Brown when cool rappin’ through the tune, especially on Candy’s Super Sax Solo Feature at the End of the Song.
5. DON’T STOP, CAN’T DO WITHOUT, another Reunion Tune between Saskia and Singer Marita Blijden, who comes from Curacao, Dutch Antilles. Saskia and Marita used to play together a lot in different Caribbean and Salsabands. The originally kinda “the Meeters” groove from Saskia was transformed by Rob into a very beautiful R & B BALLAD, Something Special now because of Marita’s Singing and her Cool Vocal Rap Talk (improvised on the spot) in an unique English dialect coming from the Caribbean Islands (filtered by Rob’s Sherman Filter Bank) tellin’ you her Musical Story about Love in such an imagable way you Can’t Stop listening.
6. SUPAGROOVA, a DRUM’N’BASS tune, was created in Studio The Boat. Where Studio Wiz Rob Gaasterland laid down a Wicked JUNGLE Groove (inspired by his current own Project 2000, a New Hip Beat initiative) and combined it with Saskia’s Acoustic Bass Lines, Saskia played long atmospheric Trumpet lines, sounding rather alienating because they were put through the Effect of a Harmonizer. Mellow Mac’s Inspirational Voice flows in a Jamaican Style through the Tune, which makes a gradual, yet rather surprising change towards an Authentic REGGAE Beat. This is where Ghasem Batamuntu comes again with his Poetical Wisdom of Counting.
7. SPIN seems at first a very happy Sixties BOOGALOO with an hypnotizing JAZZDANCE Feel to it, especially because of Saskia’s Acoustic Bassline and the Variation on a Standard Jazz-Blues Form. However, Rob’s Nordlead creates already a kinda Lunatical Sphere and when you have a closer listen to Mellow Mac’s thought provoking Rap Lyrics, the feeling of Strangeness becomes eligible. From there on Benjamin Herman’s Energetic yet Melancholic Alto Sax Solo Feature will lead you in his World ofVersatile Musical Experience.
8. LEEMOU, an AFRO-DISCO BEAT is composed around a Guitar Riff, Saskia has sampled from an Album she has played on from her First Reggae Band, named PI-Man & Memre Buku, sixteen years ago. This guitar riff is being played by Junior (British Guyana) and comes from  the Afro-Carribean composition ‘Chicken’ by PI-man. Singer on LEEMOU is Mola Sylla (Senegal) who tributes in his lyrics the African Wood Sculpturists. Succeeded by Saskia’s Soulful Trumpet Playing, he sings Pure and Melancholic in his Native Language Wolof.
9. THE BASE ELEMENT was totally meant as a Live Gig Simulation on a fast SOUL GROOVE with firstly a Humoristically Exaggerated Feature of Saskia. She is being Announced (by Ghasem!) through a Screaming and Applauding Live Crowd, she comes on stage, waits a little, plays One Very Delicate Note and the Audience goes Wild again. Notice the Filtered Accompaniment at the End of her Solo by Rob and his Sherman. Saskia is Very Proud to have as the Other Featured Musician Sir Lesley Joseph from Curacao (who is also an Outstanding Steelpan Player) with his Inimitable Sound and Technique laying down a Gripping Hip Electric Bass Solo with a Phenomonal Slap Groove that stands on His Own.
10. GOOD MORNING DOCTOR LAROO is a Short Interlude, which wakes you up with Ghasem ’s Very Expressional Short Soprano Sax Improvisation, followed by his yet ever to be poetic Voice, talking over a  SWINGING JAZZRHYTHM, with Saskia’s Walking Bass and BEBOP Licks on Trumpet.
11. IF & MAYBE was transformed from what started out as a SHUFFLE into a hypnotizing ALTERNATIVE RAP TRACK with  CHEMICAL HARDCORE ingredients by the incredible ‘forever inspired and open to the new’ Rob Gaasterland. After a short ‘boogaloo-like’ tune, played by Saskia’s Envelope & Sherman Filtered Trumpet, there is Three Times a Rap, accompanied by Rob’s Space Synths and Saskia’s Trumpet Interludes. First Mellow Mac’s Personal Life-reflecting Rhymes about Music, followed by his little Singing Tune about Saskia. Second Master of Ceremony MC Cocktail shows another side of his Improvisational Skills on Vocal Expression with his Rhyme Creations besides his Beat Boxing which is put through the whole Song. Last Poet on this Tune is Mad 10, hailing from his Posse, with a Highly Charismatic Voice Straight from the Mind he brings you his Freestyle Rap Flavours.
12. WELL starts as little faster, yet very cool and relaxed to be HIPHOP with weird chemical TRIPHOP elements and changes gradually throughout the song towards an Authentic SALSA MONTUNO with Saskia trying to make her Acoustic Bass sound like a Baby Bass. She starts out improvising with her Muted Trumpet in a fragmentaric fragile Atmospheric Way and ends up with an Open Trumpet screaming a Descargian Highblowing Solo with some Mambos.
13. SONIC ARCH is a Song about Musical Techno Architecture with CHEMICAL ROCK BEATS, a Tune designed at Studio the Boat with elements of and put together with tasteful choice of Rob with Assistance and Supervision of Saskia, who has delivered all weird sounds she could possible get out of a Trumpet, played through an Effect combination of a Delay and an Envelope Filter, which resulted in a Bass Sound among other Sounds you wouldn’t directly define as originated by a trumpet
14. MORE BODY is another modern synthesized SOULFUNK Interlude Mix, CHEMISTRIALIZED by Rob’s Studio Effect Devices, which Features once again the Musical Results of Ghasem Batamuntu’s Deeply Interpretational and Associational Thoughts about Bodymusic in a surprising combination with Candy Dulfer’s Alto Sax Playing. The Material as a result of her Recording Session at the Studio was so nice that Rob & Saskia had to do Some More with  the incredible Musical Ideas and Licks she put on Tape, so by means of Rob’s Sherman Filter Bank Candy’s Saxophone Sounds Like it has Never Sounded Before!
15. MORE VIBES is a Continuation of VIBES, starting from Rob Gaasterland’s kinda REGGAE DUB with Mellow Mac’s Vocal Flows, moving into the SPACEGROOVE where Saskia’s Distorted Trumpet Solo by several Filters, sounds almost like some Synthesized Guitar now, but Rob ‘The Boatman’ takes you to even More unimaginable Vibes, with his Extended Nordlead Space Synthesizer Solo leading you towards the End of the Album
