World-renowned trumpeter Saskia Laroo and international pianist/vocalist Warren Byrd together create a smorgasbord of music for a wide palette of occasions from the grand gala-fest to the intimate hang. Whether performing dance classics, the American songbook, hot afro-Latin grooves, or their own catchy, poignant originals this unique two can manifest as a soothing background pad, a party-rousing tandem, or a grand showpiece. Byrd and Laroo first collaborated in the USA in 2001 after which she enlisted him as her keyboardist of choice for her many tours. As a duo they’ve toured to Chicago, Los Angeles, Brazil, Czech Republic, France, India, Russia, Indonesia, and the Netherlands and many other places. With the full band they‘ve also toured to many places such as China, Chile, Senegal, Germany, Taiwan, Thailand, Nicaragua, Ukraine, and of course the USA, just to name a few. |
De wereldberoemde trompettiste Saskia Laroo en de internationaal opererend pianist en zanger Warren Byrd creëren samen een grote verscheidenheid aan muziek voor een breed palet van gelegenheden, variërend van de grootste gala's tot de kleinste en intiemste podia voor kenners en fans. Of ze nu dansklassiekers spelen, nummers uit het American Songbook, zwoele opzwepende Afro-Latin grooves of hun onweerstaanbare, niet zelden hartverscheurende eigen nummers, dit unieke duo kan zich manifesteren als een rustig klankkussen voor de achtergrond, als een knallend feesttandem of als een complete hoofdact. Laroo en Byrd slagen er altijd en overal in om hun overweldigende charme van het podium te laten spetteren. En als de gelegenheid erom vraagt, kunnen zij zich van een modern duo ontpoppen tot een volledige band.
Byrd en Laroo hebben voor het eerst samengewerkt in de Verenigde Staten in 2001; sindsdien vergezelt hij haar op de meeste van haar tournees, als haar favoriete en vaste toetsenist. Als duo hebben ze getoerd naar onder meer Chicago, Los Angeles, Brazilië, Tsjechië, Frankrijk, India, Rusland, Indonesië en Nederland. Met de volledige band hebben ze ook landen aangedaan als China, Chili, Senegal, Duitsland, Taiwan, Thailand, Nicaragua, Oekraïne, en natuurlijk de Verenigde Staten, om er maar een paar te noemen.

Native of Amsterdam, the Netherlands Saskia Laroo is a premiere figure in music and one of the finest female trumpet players in the world. Began age eight playing trumpet and as a teen picked-up cello and guitar. Though first enrolling as Mathematics major in college, she switched to music, eventually graduating from the Muziekacademie of Hilversum. Versatility has propelled her illustrious career, from barnstorming with latin, jazz and pop bands, to collaborations with legends such as Hans Dulfer and Teddy Edwards. She released her first CD, “It’s Like Jazz” in 1994 under her own label Laroo Records. Since, she has produced six CD’s varying from classic jazz to Club-influenced acid jazz fusion. She has performed worldwide in hundreds of venues with her own groups in more than twenty countries throughout six continents. |
Hailing from Hartford, Connecticut, Warren Byrd is a pianist/vocalist with a long list of international credits, tours, and celebrated work. From first croonings in the gospel choir at age four to high school’s end he’d performed extensively as an amateur actor, singer, and pianist. Though earning a full scholarship for a voice major at Hartt College of music he’d choose to focus on jazz piano and composition emerging primarily self-taught. His deeds are a testament to his gifts: freelancing with such notables as Archie Shepp and Eddie Henderson to leading Gospel choirs to composing for theatre and dance. He finished in the top twenty-five in the 1999 Monk International Competition for Piano and soon released his CD “Truth Raised Twice”. He, with David Chevan, is a co-founder of the Afro-Semitic Experience, a celebrated Jazz ensemble united toward spirituality and diversity. |
Saskia Laroo is Amsterdamse, een baanbreekster in de muziek en een van de beste trompettistes ter wereld. Zij begon op achtjarige leeftijd met de trompet. In haar tienerjaren kwamen daar de cello en de gitaar nog bij. Hoewel ze als studierichting aanvankelijk wiskunde koos maakte ze maakte ze al gauw de overstap naar de muziek. Ze studeerde af aan de Muziekacademie van Hilversum. Haar schitterende carrière werd vooruitgestuwd door haar veelzijdigheid, variërend van haar vele tournees met Latin-, jazz- en popbands tot samenwerkingen met legendes als Hans Dulfer en Teddy Edwards. In 1994 bracht ze haar eerste cd, It's Like Jazz, uit op haar eigen label Laroo Records. Ze heeft sindsdien in totaal zes cd's afgeleverd, variërend van klassieke jazz tot clubfähige acid jazz fusion. Ze heeft met haar eigen groepen op honderden podia gespeeld, verspreid over meer dan twintig landen in zes continenten. |
Warren Byrd, afkomstig uit Hartford, Connecticut, is een pianist en zanger die zijn sporen heeft verdiend met een lange lijst van internationale samenwerkingen, tournees en veelgeprezen composities en uitvoeringen. Vanaf de eerste croonings als vierjarige jongen in het gospelkoor tot aan het einde van de middelbare school had hij al uitgebreid opgetreden als amateur-acteur, -zanger en -pianist. Hoewel hij in aanmerking kwam voor een volledige studiebeurs voor een zangstudie aan Hartt College of Music, zou hij ervoor kiezen zich toe te leggen op jazzpiano en -compositie, zich hierin voornamelijk als autodidact ontwikkelend. Alles wat hij doet is een bewijs van zijn gaven: van het samenwerken met grootheden als Archie Shepp en Eddie Henderson tot het leiden van gospelkoren en het componeren voor theater en dans. In 1999 eindigde hij in de top-25 van de 'Monk International Competition for Piano' en niet lang daarna, in 2000, bracht hij zijn cd Truth Raised Twice uit.
