By 1979 Saskia Laroo is a full-fledged professional musician, doing live performances . It was during this period that she had the privilege of frequently being called for work by Dutch tenor saxophonist Hans Dulfer, who was immediately impressed by her talent. By 1981 Saskia became a regular in his bands and also Rosa King’s Upside Down Band, which included in the line-up a young sax prodigy named Candy Dulfer. While in the formative years of her career, she’d also garnered much experience absorbing world music, namely, of Hispanic, Caribbean, Brazilian and African roots. Building on these influences, Saskia continued to expand her horizons. In 1982 she formed her own Salsa Caliente Band; between 1986 and 1990 she led Caribbean Express; from 1990 till 1994 she performed with The Caribbean Colours. Around 1994 Saskia felt she had found her own voice. While having gone solo for the first time in 1993, the following year this grew into the Saskia Laroo Band, featuring compositions from her debut CD It’s Like Jazz. In 1995, Laroo gave birth to two new groups: Salsa Bop - a Latin jazz quintet and Jazzkia - her straight-ahead jazz unit, also known as the Saskia Laroo Jazz Quartet. Recently in addition to barnstorming with her several groups, Saskia performs in duo with American pianist Warren Byrd, with whom she travels the whole world to do gigs and have musical encounters with local musicians.  Sinds 1979 leeft Saskia Laroo van de muziek. In haar geval wil dat zeggen dat ze haar brood verdient met optredens. Zij had het voorrecht gevraagd te worden door saxofonist Hans Dulfer, die direct getroffen werd door haar talent; vanaf 1981 maakte Saskia regelmatig deel uit van zijn groepen. Daarnaast zat ze in Rosa King's Upside Down Band, waarin ook de jonge Candy Dulfer speelde. In het begin van haar carrière stak Saskia van alles op over salsa, Caribische, Braziliaanse en Afrikaanse muziek. Ook ging zij in verschillende andere groepen spelen. In 1982 formeerde ze haar eigen Salsa Caliente Band, tussen 1986 en 1990 had ze Caribbean Express en van 1990 tot 1994 trad ze op met The Caribbean Colours.
In 1993 ging Saskia voor het eerst solo en een jaar later richtte ze de Saskia Laroo Band op om de composities te spelen van haar debuutalbum It's Like Jazz. De Amsterdamse trompettiste had nu definitief haar eigen stem gevonden. Sindsdien gaat ze onvermoeid door met die verder te ontwikkelen, in de verschillende formaties waarin zij speelt, met muzikanten uit verschillende landen en muzikale tradities. In 1995 zagen twee nieuwe formaties het licht: het latinjazz-kwintet Salsa Bop en de straight-aheadgroep Jazzkia, ook bekend als het Saskia Laroo Jazz Quartet. Saskia heeft sinds kort ook een duo met de Amerikaanse pianist Warren Byrd, met wie zij de hele wereld bereist voor optredens en muzikale ontmoetingen met lokale muzikanten. Daarnaast treedt zij op als gastsoliste.
